SUMMARY OF DEATH
Eight-year-old Dametrious Wilson was beaten to death by his great-aunt and legal custodian, 61-year-old Susan Baffour, at their apartment on the 1900 block of Ulster Street in Denver, Colorado, on the evening of June 2, 2022. Baffour beat the child with a wooden back scrubber; she told police she had "spanked" him the night before. When emergency responders arrived the following morning after Baffour's 911 call, the child was in rigor mortis with welts, bruises, and blood on the bed. Dametrious and his older sister had been placed with Baffour through Denver Human Services kinship care in 2017, and she was subsequently granted allocation of parental rights. The child had missed 60 days of school during the 2021-2022 school year, but the school did not report the absences to child welfare. Two prior reports about the children had been screened out without investigation. The older sister was present in the home and had been forced to witness the abuse. Baffour was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.
